Flipping Burghers
One of the highlights of most Regional Burning Man events is a big bonfire on one of the nights. Usually there's a single effigy -- for Burning Man, obviously, it's The Man, but there's a monkey for Burning Flipside(approve sites).
Anyways, one cool idea would be to replace that unity with multiplicity. Here's the idea:
A sculpture composed of 5 figures in various poses. I'm thinking of Rodin's Burghers of Calais as a model, but there are probably other metaphors that can be projected mentally onto such a group. They'd be human-sized, or at maximum 1.5x, but the numbers would add up to a lot of flammable material. They could (should?) be decorated by participants. We can bring the statues to the burn platform in one procession, or five, or just have them "appear" there during the day.
Sherman's Forest has a lot of scrap wood left over from the clearing of the road and path. We can assemble enough to make 5 figures, and we can "bundle" them with flammable jute or hemp twine. Some nails may be necessary for the tricky bits, and we may need to use some larger logs as a burn platform.
